Pricing & Profit Calculator
A free profit margin, markup and pricing calculator for small business. See what you really make on every sale, test discounts and cost increases, set a target margin and estimate fully loaded pre-tax profit.
Start with two numbers
Price includes GST
The entered selling price is what the customer pays.
Based on the costs you've entered.
Amount remaining from each sale
After GST, direct costs and selling fees entered here — before wider business overhead and income tax.
Share of net sales revenue remaining.
Contribution compared with entered costs.
Collected tax is not your profit.
Your $100.00 sale
A quick visual of tax, direct costs and fees before wider overhead and income tax.
Test the decision before you make it.
Price changes, discounts and supplier increases can move profit much faster than they move revenue.
Your price falls 20%.
Your contribution changes 64.5%.
You would need approximately 2.8× as many sales to generate the same total contribution.
Does the sale cover the rest of the business?
Allocate monthly overhead across expected sales or jobs to get closer to an estimated pre-tax result.
Take the decision with you.

Turn a selling price into a business decision.
Start with the direct cost and selling price. Then add the costs that are easy to forget, test a pricing scenario and, if useful, allocate monthly overhead to estimate what may remain before income tax.
Enter cost and price
Use the two core numbers first. The calculator separates consumption tax, direct costs and selling fees from the sale.
Make it more accurate
Add labour, packaging, delivery, payment processing and platform costs using labels adapted to your type of business.
Test the decision
Compare a new price, discount, target margin or supplier-cost increase before you commit to it.
What this pricing calculator works out.
Net sales revenue
Customer price less applicable GST, VAT or sales tax when the entered price is tax inclusive.
Contribution
Net sales revenue minus the direct costs and selling fees entered. This is the amount left to cover wider overhead and profit.
Profit margin
Contribution ÷ net sales revenue. It shows what share of sales revenue remains after the entered direct costs and selling fees.
Markup
Contribution ÷ entered costs. Markup and margin measure different things, so the percentages should not be used interchangeably.
Break-even volume
Monthly overhead ÷ positive contribution per sale. This estimates how many equivalent sales or jobs are needed to cover the overhead entered.
Estimated pre-tax profit
Contribution per sale minus allocated overhead per sale. Income tax is deliberately outside this estimate.
One pricing engine, different business realities.
Switch the business type at the top and the cost language adapts while the underlying calculation stays consistent.

Services
Delivery cost, labour, job-specific software, travel and subcontractors.
Jobs & trades

Common pricing and profit questions.
What is the difference between profit margin and markup?
Margin compares the amount remaining with net sales revenue. Markup compares the amount remaining with the entered costs. A sale can therefore have a 40% margin and a much higher markup.
Can I change GST, VAT or sales tax?
Yes. Select a country or region preset, change the currency independently, edit the tax rate and choose whether your selling price includes or excludes the tax.
How do I calculate a selling price for a target margin?
Choose Target margin in the Scenario Lab. The tool estimates the selling price required using the costs, fees and tax settings currently entered.
How much more do I need to sell after a discount?
The Discount scenario compares contribution before and after the discount and, when contribution remains positive, estimates the sales-volume multiplier required to produce the same total contribution.
Does this calculator include business overhead?
Yes. Enter monthly overhead and expected monthly sales or jobs in Fully Loaded Profit to estimate overhead per sale, pre-tax profit per sale and approximate break-even volume.
Is this an accounting or tax calculator?
No. It is a pricing decision-support tool. Tax presets are editable starting points, and the fully loaded result is an estimate. Use your accountant or tax adviser for formal accounting and tax treatment.
